Many aspects of the Education Laws Amendment Bill are likely to be challenged in the courts if the law is passed in its current form. However, this does not mean the entire bill is "from the pit of hell" as some scaremongers would have it.
So says Jaco Deacon, CEO of the Federation of Governing Bodies of South African Schools (Fedsas).
Deacon addressed the Education Commission of the South African Academy of Science and Art during an online meeting on Thursday about the new legislation commonly known as the BELA bill.
Deacon highlighted five amendments which he believes will not contribute to the spirit and objectives of the South African Schools Act, court rulings of the Constitutional Court or the Constitution.
